Hoosiers more than double petition count against mid-decade redistricting

Tuesday, Indiana Conservation Voters (ICV), alongside Common Cause Indiana, the League of Women Voters of Indiana, Citizens Action Coalition and Women for Change, delivered more than 10,000 new signatures to the Indiana Statehouse, more than doubling the initial petition drop against mid-decade redistricting that was delivered in early September.

“Hoosiers have spoken—again and again and again,” Indiana Conservation Voters executive director Megan Robertson said. “For more than two months, communities across the state have made it clear that they don’t want lawmakers to reopen the maps. 

“The question for Governor Braun is simple: What will it take for him to listen to Hoosiers instead of Washington outsiders? When he came back to Indiana to run for Governor, Braun said it was because D.C. is  broken. If that’s the case, why allow Washington operatives to come into our state with their outrageous demands. Hoosiers deserve better, and the Governor has a chance to say ‘no’ right now.”

Since the White House began pushing to redraw the maps more than two months ago, a number of Republican leaders have publicly expressed opposition or serious concern about mid-cycle redistricting, including former Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels and former House Speaker Brian Bosma. 

Following two in-person visits from Vice President J.D. Vance to convince lawmakers to redistrict, President Trump called state lawmakers late last week to add more pressure. 

Multiple surveys have shown Indiana voters oppose redrawing Congressional maps mid-decade and want leaders focused on issues that matter, like utility bills, property taxes and the cost of living. Highlights from the polls include:
