High-Speed chase tops 130 MPH on Plymouth's northeast side Sunday afternoon

A routine traffic stop on U.S. 31 turned into a high-speed pursuit Sunday afternoon after a driver fled from a Plymouth Police officer, reaching speeds in excess of 130 miles per hour before being stopped several miles away.

At approximately 1:54 PM on Sunday, June 21st, Officer Krynock with the Plymouth Police Department stopped a vehicle driven by Taryejaha Adkins-Whitaker, 24, of Indianapolis at U.S. 31 and 9A Road for a traffic infraction.

Before fleeing, Adkins-Whitaker passed her two children off to a relative in a separate vehicle — then took off, initiating a pursuit that lasted approximately twelve minutes through the northeast side of Plymouth. At times during the chase, speeds exceeded 130 miles per hour.

The pursuit came to an end at the intersection of U.S. 30 and King Road, where Adkins-Whitaker was taken into custody. She was transported to the St. Joseph Hospital Emergency Room in Plymouth for medical jail clearance.

Adkins-Whitaker was subsequently admitted to the hospital for medical reasons and released from police custody.

The case remains under investigation. No injuries to bystanders or officers were reported.
