The Howard County Sheriff's Office has received several calls reporting a telephone scam.
According to the sheriff's office release, the caller is identifying themselves as Sgt. Justin Markley of the Howard County Sheriff's Office and wants to speak to someone regarding a legal issue.
The most recent scammer is leaving a voicemail and asks the person to contact them at the Howard County Sheriff's Office at (765) 273-8969 in order to seem legitimate. However, the sheriff’s office has no such telephone number.
As a reminder, no member of the HCSO will ever contact you via phone requesting money for any reason. This includes donations, warrants, taxes, etc. Although 99.9% of these scams are foreign-based, people are still encouraged to call 765-457-1105 and let law enforcement know when they are occurring so that we can warn others.
The information release was signed by the Real Sgt. Markley.
