Gun rights advocates in Lawrence County and across Illinois are concerned over legislation pending in the Illinois House that would affect gun owners.
House Bill 43 would create a state task force to study mandatory civil liability insurance for firearm owners and House Bill 4414 proposes a tax on each individual round and would require each bullet or cartridge to be serialized.
According to 102nd District Republican Adam Niemerg, both bills have had trouble moving in the spring legislative session in Springfield. At present, House Bill 43 has only two sponsors and is languishing in the rules committee and House Bill 4414 has no additional sponsors and is stuck in the House judicial-criminal committee.
Niemerg has reiterated his opposition to both bills, saying they encroach on 2nd amendment constitutional rights for his constituents.
