A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in the 1600 block of Melody Lane in Greenfield and later died on Sunday morning.
Geraldine Johnson, 81, of Greenfield was struck by a 2018 Dodge Ram 2500 while crossing Melody Lane just after 10 a.m. Sunday.
The initial investigation revealed that Johnson was crossing Melody Lane from the parking lot in front of Bealls clothing store. She was struck by the truck as it was traveling northbound on Melody Lane. Johnson was treated at the scene by paramedics from the Greenfield Fire Territory and later transported by air ambulance to an Indianapolis hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
The driver of the truck, Heath Mitchell, 45, of Alabama, remained on the scene and fully cooperated with the investigation. He submitted to drug and alcohol testing, as required by Indiana law in serious bodily injury crashes. While drugs or alcohol are not suspected to be a factor, toxicology results are pending.
This crash remains under investigation by the Hancock County Fatal Accident Crash Team.
Officers were assisted at the scene by Greenfield Fire Territory, Hancock County Sheriff's Department, McCordsville Police Department and Ascension St. Vincent StatFlight medical helicopter personnel.
