Gov. Braun opens new doors to healthcare careers with Power Up Indiana

Governor Mike Braun is strengthening one of Indiana’s most critical industries by helping more Hoosiers build careers in healthcare while giving employers the skilled workforce they need to grow. Power Up Indiana invests in employer-led training that expands opportunity for workers and addresses workforce shortages across the health care sector.

“Indiana grows when Hoosiers have the skills to succeed and employers have the workforce they need to expand,” said Gov. Braun. “Power Up Indiana helps accomplish both by opening doors to better-paying careers while strengthening one of our state’s most important industries.”

Administered by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, Power Up Indiana supports Gov. Braun’s strategy to help employers grow by developing talent from within, creating new career pathways and growing wages for Hoosiers while addressing workforce needs in key industries.

Building a stronger healthcare talent pipeline helps ensure Hoosiers can access quality care while supporting one of Indiana’s most important economic sectors. Across Indiana, healthcare employers are using Power Up Indiana to create career pathways tailored to their workforce needs.

At Deaconess Health System, the Power Up investment is helping existing employees advance into high-demand clinical careers through the expansion of Step Up, a program that allows frontline employees to earn professional credentials while continuing to receive their regular wages. More than 100 employees are enrolled in pathways including nursing, sonography, medical imaging, laboratory technology, medical assisting and medical coding. The program provides employees in entry-level roles — including Environmental Services, Dietary, Patient Registration, and other support areas — with a direct pathway to licensed and specialized healthcare careers.

DaMar Staffing Solutions is expanding Indiana’s community-based healthcare workforce by preparing professionals who help patients navigate care and address barriers such as transportation and housing. With support from Power Up, DaMar focuses on upskilling community health workers, registered nurse coordinators, caregiver guides, transition specialists and patient service representatives, reducing the strain on hospital clinical staff while improving patient access to health service.

Power Up Indiana demonstrates how partnerships between the state and employers like Deaconess and DaMar can strengthen key industries, grow the talent pipeline and create better-paying careers for Hoosiers.
