Monday, Governor Mike Braun signed an executive order creating an Indiana Council on Fraud Detection and Prevention to build on his success in rooting out and eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse in government.
The Council will combat waste, fraud, and abuse in federal programs administered by state agencies to promote effective stewardship of taxpayer dollars.
“Hoosiers deserve honesty, transparency, and accountability in state government spending, and my administration is leading the nation in fighting financial fraud and improper payments, cutting costs, and enhancing transparency and accountability for Hoosier taxpayers.” — Governor Mike Braun
In addition to the massive taxpayer savings shared in his State of the State Address, including $465 million dollars in Medicaid savings just this year, Governor Braun also highlighted additional wins for protecting Hoosier taxpayer dollars in 2025:
Department of Revenue:
- $11.7 million stopped or adjusted in business tax returns.
- $79,978,174 stopped or adjusted due to fraud in individual tax returns (68% higher than 2024).
- 10,198 stolen identities identified with action taken to correct (285% higher than 2024).
Indiana Department of Administration:
- 231.5% total increase in competitive procurements.
- 162.5% increase in statewide enterprise agreements (QPAs) which has enhanced service offerings to state agencies and local governments
Indiana State Personnel Department
- 2,000 positions vacant for more than 180 days eliminated, generating savings of over $1 million in seat charge costs for state agencies in 2025.
