A man who fled Marshall County nearly eight years ago to avoid prosecution on felony charges has been apprehended and returned to face justice.
Edin Omar Henriquez-Galeano, 38, of Illinois and formerly of Plymouth, was taken into custody for an outstanding arrest warrant originally issued in May 2018 for Sexual Misconduct with a Minor, a level 4 felony. The case was initially investigated by the Plymouth Police Department.
Henriquez-Galeano had been considered a fugitive from justice since 2018 after fleeing the area to avoid prosecution. His case remained open as authorities worked to locate him.
The break in the case came recently when crime analysts with the Indiana State Police obtained information about the fugitive's possible whereabouts in Illinois. That intelligence was turned over to Captain Jeff Snyder of the Marshall County Police Department, who coordinated extradition efforts and collaborated with the United States Marshals Service to locate and apprehend Henriquez-Galeano.
On January 29, the U.S. Marshals took Henriquez-Galeano into custody and transported him to the Cook County Jail in Chicago, where he awaited extradition back to Marshall County.
On February 5, Henriquez-Galeano was returned to Marshall County, where he is being held on a $25,000 cash bond. He also faces a detainer hold from Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. Those charged are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
