Fernbaugh’s Diamonds and Fine Jewelry of Logansport closing after 93 years in business

After 93 years in business, Fernbaugh’s Diamonds and Fine Jewelry is closing its doors to their store in downtown Logansport.

The closing comes after owner Derek McGuire announced his retirement earlier this month. For now, the storefront at 416 E Broadway in Logansport will remain open, with an out of business sale that began on April 8 marking every item in the store on sale currently. Fernbaugh's doors will permanently close on June 6, 2026. 

“We have been so fortunate to be part of really special moments. Engagements, weddings, anniversaries, and more… our customers have trusted us for 93 years and we couldn’t have done any of it without this community. We find ourselves calling this moment bittersweet,“ it stated on Fernbaugh's Facebook page in a post announcing the closing. 

“We cannot thank you enough for the support over the years! We hope you’ll stop in, share a memory, and wish Derek well on his next journey. Logansport, you have been so good to us,“ the post further stated. 

The business was first opened in 1933 by Earl and Geraldine Fernbaugh. Over the decades the local jewelry store has served the community for not only its jewelry needs, but also was known for servicing watches and clocks. Earl and Geraldine never had children to pass on the business to, so eventually had no children to leave the shop to, so eventually Fernbaugh’s Diamonds and Fine Jewelry was left to three of their employees. One of the employees that inherited the business was Oris McGuire, father of Derek McGuire, the current owner and operator. 

Prior to the recent closing announcement, Derek has ran the business for the past 45 years. Getting to know his clientele’s needs throughout the decades, Derek plans to continue providing some of his watch, clock and jewelry services out of his home.
