A familiar face will lead North Vermillion Junior-Senior High School into the 2025-26 school year, as Kim Britton has spent the summer growing accustomed to her new role.
"I am very excited. I have worked there for four-and-a-half years. I have always been a Falcon even when I worked at neighboring schools. I am happy to serve the community and look forward to an exciting school year. We have a tailgate planned, and we are very excited to circle back for a reunion. We are excited about the new pathways we have, and we are ready," Britton told The Parke County Post.
For Britton, the high school is nothing new, as she previously served as assistant principal after getting her start in education as an English teacher.
"The message is the possibilities are endless. We have hired a lot of well equipped teachers and created some new programs and pathways, so there is options for everyone and we are excited about that," Britton said.
North Vermillion Superintendent Brian Byrum said the promotion of Britton fulfills his mission of building a culture that features good to great and promoting in house.
"When we find our educators, we want to make them educational leaders and empower them to grow and become professionals and be better at what they do. We have been fortunate to have some great people in the classrooms who have worked their way up through some administrative ranks. In the last year, we've had curriculum directors become principals, classroom teachers become assistant principals and special education directors become assistant principals. There are a lot of opportunities for our teachers to be leaders and help get trained to be the best they can be," Byrum said.
