Factory closures in Warsaw and Goshen leave hundreds without jobs

Two factories closing in northern Indiana will be leaving hundreds of people without a job in the next few months. 

On Dec. 29 a notice was filed with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development that Dalton Corp. Warsaw Manufacturing Facility, 1900 E Jefferson St. in Warsaw, will be closing at the end of Feb., terminating 262 of their employees from the facility. 

It was reported many of the workers are members of the United Steelworkers Local 6805 in Warsaw.

Chicago-based law firm, Strauss Borelli LLC, announced they had started an investigation into the owners of Dalton Corp regarding the mass layoff. The law firm stated that the WARN Act is a federal law requiring certain employers to notify their employees at least 60 days before a factory closing or mass layoff takes effect. As a result, the firm believes Dalton Corporation employees could be entitled to severance pay and benefits for those 60 days.

On Jan. 5, the Lafayette-based Wabash National Services announced they would be closing its northern Indiana manufacturing facility located at 2572 E Kercher Rd in Goshen starting March 6. The company stated the job cuts at the Goshen facility will happen in phases and result in the permanent layoff of 144 workers. 

According to the notice by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development the employees being laid off from Wabash National Services are not represented by any union.
