A Fort Wayne, semi-driver was arrested early Sunday morning by a Marshall County police officer for operating while intoxicated.
At 12:52 a.m., the Marshall County Central Dispatch Center advised officers of a possible impaired semi-truck driver on U.S. 30 at Gumwood Road heading west.
Deputy Geiger responded to the area along with Plymouth Police Officer Dave Vinson was able to locate the semi and made a traffic stop for traffic infractions at U.S. 30 and Oak Road.
Deputy Geiger spoke with the driver, 41-year-old John W. Williams III, and during the conversation, noticed the smell of alcohol. Mr. Williams agreed to field sobriety tests and portable breath test.
The result of the certified test showed Mr. Williams to have a blood alcohol content of .127%. John Williams was arrested and lodged in the Marshall County Jail with a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and held on a $1500 cash bond.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
