Dunkin Donuts site development plan approved by Shelbyville Plan Commission

Shelbyville will soon have a Dunkin Donuts located at both Interstate 74 exits.

On Monday at the city’s Plan Commission meeting at City Hall, the site development plan for a new Dunkin Donuts was unanimously approved after discussion about traffic flow through the lot and the potential for overflow traffic on to N. Riley Highway.

The .79-acre lot nestled between Waffle House and a fueling station/convenience store was originally approved in 2000 for the development of a Burger King that never materialized.

The new Dunkin Donuts building will have a drive-thru lane.

In other Plan Commission business Monday, the site development plan for a new fueling station and convenience store on Progress Road next to fire station No. 2 was approved.

The Shell fueling station will be located at 425 Progress Road at the intersection with Michigan Road. The property is approximately 1.3 acres in size and will be developed with the plan of a “future restaurant” also existing on the site.

Within the paperwork associated with the project is a note from the city regarding a future roundabout at the intersection.

In the fall of 2024, the U.S. Department of Transportation awarded grant funds to the City of Shelbyville through the “Safe Streets and Roads for All” program to convert the intersection of Progress Road and Michigan Road to a roundabout.

The roundabout project is currently scheduled to begin construction in 2028.
