The death of a driver in a Knox County crash may be the result of a medical issue.
Knox County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a single-vehicle accident on US 41 South in the area of Schenk Drive.
A semitruck / trailer loaded with coal was traveling South on US 41 when it crossed the median and both northbound lanes of US 41 before crashing into an embankment and coming to rest on its side in an adjacent cornfield.
Preliminary investigation reveals the driver may have had a medical issue before the crash just after 12 p.m. The driver of the semi, a 48-year-old male from West Salem, Illinois, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the sole occupant of the truck.
