Deborah Johnson has announced her candidacy for re-election to the Marshall County Council representing District 2 in the upcoming Republican primary.  Johnson, who has served on the council for three years, represents Tippecanoe, Walnut, Green, Union, and West Townships.

Johnson lives on 25 acres in West Township with her husband, Bryan. The couple has five children and seven grandchildren.

In 2012, Johnson founded Drew's Gift of Music in memory of her son, Drew. The organization provides musical instruments to students through donations, allowing them to explore music. Johnson also works as a school bus driver and describes herself as an avid gardener and lifelong artist.

During her current term on the County Council, Johnson has served as a point of contact for multiple county departments, including veterans affairs, the recorder's office, building inspector, the surveyor's office, the health department, and the Technical Review Committee. She currently serves as vice president of the Plan Commission.

Johnson participates in several subcommittees, including Budget and Finance, and the Personnel Committee.

Johnson identifies as a conservative Republican, stating she is strongly pro-life, supports Second Amendment rights, and advocates for limited government.

Recent work includes:

  • Serving on a committee researching and drafting ordinances for energy developments
  • Opposing the Marshall County Regional Sewer District after economic analysis deemed it not feasible

In her announcement, Johnson expressed commitment to continuing her council work.

"It has been an honor and a privilege to work with you in the last three years, facing challenges and triumphs together," Johnson stated. "I have listened to your concerns and felt your passions. I stand with you!"

Johnson cited faith-based motivation for seeking re-election, saying she feels called to continue serving on the County Council.

The Republican primary will be held in May 2026. The general election will take place in November 2026.

District 2 encompasses Tippecanoe, Walnut, Green, Union, and West Townships in rural Marshall County.
