A death investigation is ongoing following a weekend standoff in Rush County.
Rushville Police were called Saturday to the 200 block of East 6th Street for a suicidal subject inside a residence armed with a handgun. Officers were informed that the individual was making threats of self-harm while armed with a deadly weapon and pointed the weapon at another residence of the residence.
The armed subject was given the opportunity to speak with mental health crisis counselors and an Indiana State Police negotiator via telephone. Those conversations did not lead to an end of the standoff.
The Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team then initiated a response plan to execute a search warrant and detain the subject. During that execution, they were able to utilize live video feed equipment to locate the subject inside the residence and determine that he was deceased.
No names have been released as of this report as the death investigation continues. The official cause of death is pending.
