Culver Police investigate two auto thefts

The Culver Police Department is currently investigating two incidents in the town’s residential areas. Due to the ongoing investigation and a juvenile being detained, no further details are being released at this time.

On Tuesday, August 12, at 8:25 A.M., the Culver Police Department began investigating a stolen vehicle in the 600 block of College Avenue. The stolen vehicle was later returned to the victim's property with extensive body damage. The theft took place overnight, and the investigation is ongoing.

On Saturday, August 16, at 8:08 A.M., the Culver Police Department launched an investigation into another vehicle reported stolen in the 300 block of East Jefferson Street. The theft occurred during the overnight hours, and the stolen vehicle was found outside the Culver area within minutes of the officers arriving and beginning their investigation.

The Culver Police Department was assisted by an Indiana State Police Crime Scene Technician in both cases, and the investigation is ongoing to identify everyone responsible for the auto thefts.

On Saturday, August 16, at 7:03 P.M., an officer of the Culver Police Department recognized a juvenile believed to be involved in unrelated previous criminal activity walking on Madison Street in Culver. The juvenile fled on foot when he saw the officer. Officers of the Marshall County Police Department, Plymouth Police Department, K9, and with the help of the public, the 17-year-old male juvenile was apprehended about 20 minutes later while hiding in the area near the 300 block of East Jefferson Street. The juvenile was found to be in possession of an article connecting him to one of the auto thefts. The juvenile was subsequently detained in a juvenile facility pending review by the Marshall County Prosecutor's Office.

Information pertaining to this release is based on probable cause to believe the allegations have been committed. Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty within proper court proceeding.
