Officers from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and emergency responders were dispatched to a collision involving two motorized vehicles and a horse-drawn buggy Friday.
At approximately 5:54 p.m. Friday, the Marshall County Central Dispatch Center received a call of a crash with a pickup pulling a trailer, an SUV, and a horse-drawn buggy at the intersection of U.S. 6 and Dogwood Road.
Officer Haygood was the investigating officer on the scene. He determined that a 2024 Chevy Silverado pulling a trailer and driven by Brian Blake, 41, of South Bend, was stopped on the south side of U.S. 6. He entered the intersection and failed to yield to a westbound 2013 Volvo XC70, driven by Michael Henry, 20, of Bremen.
The collision caused the Chevy to run into a stopped horse-drawn buggy, which was being operated by Nathan Slabaugh of Wakarusa.
All the buggy occupants were transported to Memorial Hospital to be evaluated. The other two drivers were checked out on the scene by EMS but denied treatment. Newcomer's Towing and Reichert-Knepp Towing were called to the scene to remove the motor vehicles. Bremen Police, Fire, and EMS, and Nappanee EMS assisted the Marshall County Sheriff's Department.
