On Saturday, June 1st the Marshall County Sheriff's Department released details of a fatal ATV accident from Sunday, May 26th.
Marshall County Police Department Officers responded to a single vehicle collision in the 18,000 block of 4th Road, near Walkerton at 12:32 a.m.
Arriving at the scene it was found that Polaris RZR UTV had ran off the north side of the roadway and struck a tree.
First responders gave aid to the driver, Jeffery Balmer at the scene, but ultimately, he was pronounced deceased a short time later. Investigation by officers at the scene showed that the ATV left the roadway for an unknown reason. The collision is still under investigation, but alcoholic beverages and excessive speed are believed to have been contributing factors in the collision.
The Marshall County Sheriff's Department was assisted by Walkerton EMS, the Polk Township Fire Department, and the Marshall County Coroner's Office.
