Local and area law enforcement authorities are alerting the public after receiving reports of counterfeit $100 bills circulating in southeastern Illinois.
The fake bills look to be legitimate at first glance but are marked "For Motion Picture Use" indicating that they are not legal tender.
Business owners and customers are being advised to carefully inspect any $100 bill for that printed phrase and use detection methods to watch for the bogus bills during cash transactions.
Anyone who comes across any suspicious currency is asked to report it to the nearest law enforcement agency.
