City of Shelbyville councilman Betsy Means Davis (photo) appeared before the Board of Public Works and Safety Tuesday morning and admonished Mayor Scott Furgeson.
Furgeson was recently caught on video stating “No Data Center” signs seem to only be on unkempt and rental properties around the city.
The mayor is one of three members of the Board of Works that deals with run down properties throughout the city.
Means Davis (2nd Ward) reminded the mayor he ran for election on beautifying the city so, then, he has failed that campaign promise in his own words.
“You have had plenty of time to make that happen,” she said.

Means Davis commented on the video which was taken earlier this month unbeknownst to Furgeson (photo) at the restaurant he owns, Cagney’s Pizza King.
There has been public outcry since the video surfaced online for the mayor to resign. The story of a mayor’s sentiments toward those opposing a proposed data center in Shelbyville has gone nationwide.
Means Davis stated that Furgeson has been asked internally to resign. He has stated unequivocally that he will not step down.
Prior to Means Davis speaking Tuesday, Furgeson said there will be a formal announcement later this week from him concerning his video statement.
The Shelbyville Common Council has a scheduled meeting Wednesday at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
