Congressman Yakym votes to crack down on Chinese fentanyl trafficking

Today, Congressman Rudy Yakym (IN-02) released a statement after the passage of the “Stop Chinese Fentanyl Act of 2025.”

“Fentanyl is the leading cause of death for Americans aged 18 to 45, and as a father of three, I am determined to stop its deadly flow,” Rep. Yakym said. “The House passed the Stop Chinese Fentanyl Act of 2025, empowering the U.S. to sanction Chinese individuals and organizations behind the production and trafficking of synthetic opioids. From securing our border to holding China accountable, we are taking every step to stop the flow of this deadly drug and protect American lives.”

Background:

“The Stop Chinese Fentanyl Act of 2025” (H.R. 747): Increases sanctions by expanding the definition of who is identified as a “foreign opioid trafficker” to include any Chinese individuals or entity involved in the production, manufacturing, distribution, sale, or known financing of synthetic opioids and precursor chemicals. Additionally, the expanded definition includes senior PRC officials or political figures that knowingly aid, abet, or allow opioid trafficking through intentional inaction.
