This week, the County Commissioners approved on their first reading an ordinance to amend the zoning map of Marshall County for a parcel near the intersection of 4A and Lilac Roads in North Township in the community known as Linkville.

The parcel of land is over 14 acres and currently has no home on it. The owners are John and Virginia Brown.  Commissioner Stan Klotz presented the request, noting that the Browns have children and, under the current T-1 (Town residential) zoning district, are not permitted to keep animals for 4-H purposes. The Browns requested a change in zoning to A-3 (Agricultural residential). He also noted that they plan to build a home in the future.

The County Plan Commission heard the request in July and voted to support the rezoning change with no conditions.

A public hearing was held by the commissioners, and no comments were made. County Attorney Sean Surrisi did read a letter received by the county on Monday, which included a petition with eight signatures requesting to maintain the T-1 zoning.  He noted that several signatures were illegible, and the letter lacked a reason for the neighbors' preference to maintain the current zone.

The Browns' property is on the edge of Linkville and spans 14 acres. Without knowing the petitioner’s reasons, the commissioners unanimously approved the ordinance amending the zoning to A-3 on the first reading.
