Clear out these items for spring cleaning: Attorney General Rokita alerts Hoosiers to over 60 products recalled in April

Attorney General Todd Rokita is alerting Hoosiers to over 60 recalled products during the month of April. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission listed recalled items in multiple areas, with children's toys and outdoor equipment topping the list.
  
“I know it’s inconvenient and nobody wants to replace a product they just bought,” said Attorney General Rokita. “But the risk of doing nothing is simply too great. Some of these defective items can cause serious injury or even death. Please take these recalls seriously — check your homes today and keep your loved ones safe.” 
 
The Consumer Product Safety Commission reports the following products were recalled in April:   
 
Cookware/Drinkware 

• E Mishan Recalls Granitestone Diamond Pro Blue Stainless Sauté Pans Due to Impact and Burn Hazards | CPSC.gov 
  • The metal cap on the screw that connects the sauté pan to the handle can become detached and forcefully eject when heated, posing impact and burn hazards to consumers. 
• Magnetic Drinkware Charms Recalled Due to Risk of Serious Injury or Death from Magnet Ingestion; Violate Mandatory Standard for Magnets; Sold on Amazon by Maitys | CPSC.gov  
  • The recalled magnetic drinkware charms violate the mandatory standard for magnets because they contain loose magnets posing an ingestion hazard to children. When high-powered magnets are swallowed, the ingested magnets can attract each other, or other metal objects, and become lodged in the digestive system. This can result in perforations, twisting, and/or blockage of the intestines, blood poisoning and death. 
• Vitaquest International Recalls Multiple Iron Supplement Bottles and Packets Due to Risk of Serious Injury or Death from Poisoning to Young Children; Violates Mandatory Standard for Child-Resistant Packaging | CPSC.gov  
  • The dietary supplements contain iron, which must be in child-resistant packaging as required by the Poison Prevention Packaging Act. The packaging of the supplements is not child-resistant, posing a risk of serious injury or death from poisoning if the contents are swallowed by young children.

  • The tea kettles’ handle can detach during use when heated, posing a risk of serious injury from burn hazard.

  • The recalled pajama sets violate the mandatory standards for flammability of children’s sleepwear, posing a risk of burn injuries to children.

  • The recalled pet toys violate the mandatory standard for consumer products with button cell and coin batteries because the battery compartment is not secure, making the button cell batteries easily accessible to children, posing a deadly ingestion hazard. In addition, the button batteries provided with the pet toys are not in child-resistant packaging, and the packaging does not have the warnings as required by Reese’s Law . When button cell or coin batteries are swallowed, the ingested batteries can cause serious injuries, internal chemical burns and death.

  • The recalled youth ATVs fail to comply with the requirements of the federal mandatory ATV safety standard posing a risk of serious injury or death. 
  • The youth ATVs fail to meet the maximum speed limitations for ATVs intended for children ages 6 and older, the mechanical suspension fails to comply with safety requirements, and the throttle may get stuck during use, all of which pose a crash hazard.   
  • Additionally, the ATVs’ footwell surfaces can reach high temperatures posing a risk of severe burns.

  • The Montessori toy sets contain an airplane shaped teething toy that has tentacle ends that can pose a choking hazard to young children. The toys also violate the teething toy provision of the mandatory standard for children’s toys. 
• Autobrush Recalls Sonic Pro Children’s Toothbrush Boxes Due to Risk of Serious Injury or Death from Battery Ingestion; Violates Mandatory Standard for Consumer Products with Coin Batteries | CPSC.gov 
  • The recalled delivery boxes violate the mandatory standard for consumer products containing button cell and coin batteries because they contain a lithium coin battery that can be easily accessed by children, posing an ingestion hazard. The packaging also does not bear the required warning labels for products containing such batteries as required by Reese’s Law . If button cell or coin batteries are swallowed, the ingested batteries can cause serious injuries, including internal chemical burns, and death.
