City Police find Hampton operating on a controlled substance

A South Bend woman was arrested Thursday morning after a Plymouth Police Officer conducted a traffic stop for an equipment violation.

Just before 3 a.m. Corporal Schieber conducted a traffic stop on Michigan Road near Veterans Parkway. During the stop, it was discovered that the vehicle's registration was suspended. The driver and vehicle owner was identified as Talisha Hampton, 22, of South Bend.

Hampton was taken into custody after the officer observed signs of impairment, and a search warrant was obtained and executed.

Talisha Hampton was booked into the Marshall County Jail on three preliminary class C misdemeanor charges: operating a vehicle while intoxicated on a controlled substance, operating a vehicle with a suspended registration, and operating a vehicle without financial responsibility with a prior. She was held on a $1,500 cash bond.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
