An officer with the Plymouth Police Department stopped to check on a suspicious vehicle early Wednesday morning when he saw a male hanging out of the driver’s door.

At about 2:30 a.m. Thursday, Corporal Schieber observed a vehicle in the 1200 block of West Jefferson Street. The vehicle had a male subject hanging out from the driver's door and the running vehicle.

Through the officer’s investigation, he found that the male had thrown up outside of the vehicle and on himself and was suspected of being intoxicated.

The male was identified as Pedro A. Chavez, 24-years-old of Redwood Road in Plymouth. Chavez failed standardized field sobriety testing and, after completing a chemical test, was transported to the Marshall County Jail, where he was lodged for operating while intoxicated with a $1,500 cash bond.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
