A traffic stop near the hospital in Plymouth early Monday morning resulted in the arrest of a man from California and a woman from LaPorte.
At approximately 2:15 July 7th, Corporal Schieber with the Plymouth Police Department conducted a traffic stop at 1915 Lake Avenue, Saint Joseph Hospital, on a vehicle for moving violations and equipment violations.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Jose Pulido, 50, of Acampo, California, and the passenger in his vehicle, Ashley Selvidge, 43, of LaPorte.
During the traffic stop, Marshall County Sheriff's Department Canine Diesel assisted and indicated the presence of narcotics. A search of the vehicle was completed, and suspected methamphetamine, marijuana, paraphernalia, and syringes were located.
Both Pulido and Selvidge were taken into custody and transported to the Marshall County Jail. Pulido and Selvidge are facing preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of a syringe, possession of marijuana, and possession of paraphernalia. Selvidge is also facing an additional charge of obstruction of justice after she attempted to hide and discard evidence.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
