City police were called to the Days Inn for a possible kidnapping early Saturday morning.
At approximately 2:30 hours on May 10th, Plymouth Police responded to the Days Inn for a possible kidnapping. The caller told Central Dispatch that Shaquile L. Booker of Centerville, MI, had taken her 6-month-old son and was currently on his way back to Michigan. An Attempt To Locate was placed on Booker and the vehicle he was seen in.
The vehicle was located in Elkhart County at approximately 3:20 in the morning, and Booker was taken into custody. The child was located safe and taken to Plymouth Hospital for a precautionary evaluation.
Booker was transported back to Marshall County and lodged in the Marshall County Jail. He was booked on charges of felony kidnapping as a level 5 felony and neglect of a dependent as a level 6 felony. The Probable Cause Affidavit was completed, reviewed by a judge, and signed. Booker was held on a $20,000 cash bond.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
