A bomb squad was called after a traffic stop in Knox on Monday. After safety securing the suspected device, however, it was later determined not to be a bomb.
According to a release from the Knox City Police Department, the incident occurred after Knox Police Officers conducted a traffic stop at a gas station in Knox on Nov 10 for a driver, identified as Skylar Daniels, who had been operating while suspended prior. After searching the vehicle, officers discovered an item in the driver's side door that was suspected to be a homemade pipe bomb.
As a safety precaution the area surrounding the gas station was immediately evacuated. The Porter County Bomb Squad was requested to respond to the scene, where they safely secured the device and determined it was not a bomb.
Daniel's was taken into custody at the scene without further incident and transported to the Starke County Sheriff’s Office to be booked at the jail.
