USA Track & Field National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships will be held at Blue River Memorial Park in Shelbyville.
The event will take place Dec. 14 and will feature youth, ages 7 to 18, from across the United States.
“USATF contacted us at the end of September when their 2024 host site had to change. We began conversations with them, ensuring them that we were interested and more than capable of hosting their event,” said Gary Nolley, Blue River Cross Country Course director.
The local cross country course features 2K, 3K, 4K and 5K courses that are specifically designed for events like the USATF Championships.
“We designed these courses with flexibility in distance, features and amenities knowing we would foster relationships with organizations like the USATF,” stated Nolley.
“Needless to say, we are thrilled with the hard work of everyone affiliated with Blue River Cross Country Course, their efforts continually create opportunity and excitement in Shelby County,” said Rachael Ackley, Executive Director of Shelby County Tourism and Visitors Bureau. “We’ve notified our hospitality partners that this event will not only bring 3,000+ athletes, but support staff and families that will be looking for accommodations, restaurants, retail and entertainment while they are here. Shelby County and the City of Shelbyville are excited to welcome these visitors.”
