Forbes publishes its annual “Best-In-State Banks” and “Best-In-State Credit Unions” lists based on large-scale consumer surveys conducted with research firm Statista.
Respondents are asked to rate their primary financial institutions on factors such as customer service, quality of financial advice, transparency of fees, digital banking experience, and overall trust.
For Indiana, Forbes’ rankings underscore the continued strength of locally headquartered institutions that compete successfully against national banks by emphasizing relationship banking, community involvement, and comparatively low fees. Only a small fraction of U.S. banks and credit unions make the cut each year, which gives the Indiana winners meaningful marketing and reputational value.
Forbes’ most recent list of best banks in Indiana places Merrillville-based Centier Bank in the top spot, reflecting its strong customer satisfaction scores and community banking model. Three other Indiana-based community banks—First Farmers Bank & Trust, Alliance Bank, and 1st Source Bank—also appear on the list, alongside Ohio-based Huntington Bank, which maintains a large branch footprint in the state.
Alliance Bank was listed as Best Bank #3. Located in Francesville, Alliance was touted for its community bank presence in smaller Indiana markets.
