2nd suspect of armed robbery incidents in custody

Tyree M. Cox, 19, South Bend, is charged with attempted murder, a Level 1 felony, armed robbery, a Level 3 felony, and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, a Level 6 felony. 

A South Bend teen is held without bond at the Fulton County Jail on charges stemming from a robbery and shooting incident that occurred last October in Rochester. 

Tyree M. Cox, 19, of South Bend, was picked up Wednesday from the St. Joseph County Jail on a Fulton County warrant charging him with attempted murder, a Level 1 felony, armed robbery, a Level 3 felony, and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, a Level 6 felony. 

According to charging information, Cox is accused of attempting to rob four people in two separate incidents on Oct. 11, 2023. That night, shortly before 8 p.m., police responded to a report of shots fired at Rumors Nite Club, 1617 Main St. 

An investigation by Rochester Police Department determined that Cox and 18-year-old Bryce J. Turner, of Rochester, attempted to rob three people at gunpoint in a vehicle behind the bar. It is believed that Cox was the one holding the gun and that he fired two shots at the vehicle after its driver sped out of the parking lot, knocking him and Turner down in the process.

The vehicle continued northbound on Madison Street, and Cox and Turner allegedly fled southbound on foot toward 18th Street.

Police subsequently began to look for those involved and located two bullet casings at the scene. A police dog also led officers to Turner's residence, but those at the home claimed he was not there and later advised that he would not reveal his location. 

Roughly two hours after that incident, Avram Case reported that he was jumped by two males with a knife in the 1100 block of Main Street. They fit the earlier suspects' description and cut Case's forearm before fleeing on foot with cash from his wallet. 

It is again believed that Cox was the one with the weapon and that he was joined by Turner.

Court records indicate that Cox allegedly attempted to cut Case several times after he had regained his footing and began fighting back during the robbery. Cox and Turner allegedly made off with $30, and Case ran to his apartment to call police. 

Medics subsequently responded and treated Case, who refused to be transported to the hospital for additional treatment. 

Turner also was eventually taken into custody and is charged with armed robbery and robbery resulting in bodily injury, both Level 3 felonies. He faces an additional charge of escape after allegedly cutting off a GPS monitoring device while on pretrial home detention.

Cases for both are pending in Fulton Superior Court.
