2 traffic stops lead to arrests for Plymouth Police

The Plymouth Police Department made two arrests in recent weeks following separate traffic stops, one involving an unlicensed driver and another resulting in a vehicle pursuit.

On Wednesday, July 22nd, at approximately 5:15 p.m., Patrolman Thornton conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Michigan Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. During the investigation, it was determined that the driver, Orbelinda Godoy Maldonado, 28, of Plymouth, had been operating a vehicle without ever having obtained a driver's license. Maldonado was transported to the Marshall County Jail and charged accordingly. She was also placed on a detainer hold for Immigration.

The following Wednesday, July 29th, at 12:46 p.m., Officer Krynock attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle at U.S. 31 and 12th Road. The driver, Li Weiqiong, 46, of China, refused to pull over and continued southbound. With the assistance of the Marshall County Police Department and the Argos Police Department, officers were able to box in the vehicle near U.S. 31 and 17th Road, bringing the pursuit to an end. Weiqiong was subsequently lodged at the Marshall County Jail on a charge of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle.

Both cases remain on file with the Marshall County court system.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
