A 1-year-old was killed after an incident where the child was ran over by a forklift in rural northwest Kosciusko County Wednesday. Preliminary investigation determined the operator was not aware the child was nearby when he reversed the machine, backing over the child.
A 1-year-old was killed Wednesday afternoon after being ran over by a forklift in Kosciusko County.
The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Office stated in a news release that on Sept. 4, just after 1 p.m., Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputies and emergency personnel responded to a report of an accident involving a forklift and a 1-year-old child. The incident occurred in the northwest section of the county at 12734 N. CR 1025 West, near Nappanee.
Despite emergency personnel performing life-saving measures, the child was pronounced dead at the scene.
The release states that Kevin Borkholder, 34, of Nappanee, was the operator of forklift. Preliminary investigation determined Borkholder was unaware that the child was behind the forklift when he reversed the machine, backing over the child. The incident remains under investigation by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division.
