Ten of the 16 teams that competed in the 2025 Bob Wettig Tournament will return for this season’s event in Richmond, Indiana.
That list of returning teams includes Shelbyville, who lost to Ben Davis in the championship game, 51-43. The Giants also will return to defend their title.
This season’s tournament will take place Dec. 29-30 at the Tiernan Center at Richmond High School and on the campus of Earlham College in Richmond. Each of the 16 teams will play four games over two days.
Shelbyville, 18-7 last season, returns much of its roster from a successful squad that defeated North Decatur (74-36), Indianapolis Shortridge (63-54) and Richmond (51-36) to reach the championship game.
The Golden Bears will be in game one of this year’s tournament at 9 a.m. at the Tiernan Center against Indy HomeSchool Wildcats (21-15 last season), who finished 14th in last year’s tournament. The Wildcats lost to Richmond (58-57) and Seton Catholic (73-66) before defeating Phalen Academy (63-56).
Purdue Poly Englewood bested the Wildcats, 59-26, in the 13th-place game.
The remainder of Shelbyville’s schedule will depend on wins or losses.
If the Golden Bears defeat Indy HomeSchool, they would return to the Tiernan Center that same day at 3 p.m. to face either Fort Wayne North (10-15 last season, 2-2 at the Wettig Tournament to place seventh) or KIPP Indy Legacy (17-8).
If the Golden Bears lose their opener, they would play at 3 p.m. against the loser of the Fort Wayne North-KIPP Indy Legacy game at Earlham College.
The semifinal round of the tournament is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 30. The championship game is at 8 p.m.
Here is the opening round schedule for the Wettig Tournament:
