Shelbyville’s Ava Muckerheide defeated Southport’s Lillian Boone, 6-1, 6-0, Tuesday at Center Grove to advance to the sectional championship match in the IHSAA State Singles Tournament.
Muckerheide (photo) will return to the court Thursday to either be crowned sectional champion when no other opponent is remaining from the Center Grove team regional tournament or face a foe from Perry Meridian or Center Grove.
Morristown’s No. 1 doubles pairing of Emmy Bowyer and Emma Waggoner were defeated by Indian Creek’s Alexa Sichting and Lilly Swanson, 6-0, 6-0, to bring an end to their season.
In the team regional semifinals, Center Grove defeated Triton Central, 5-0, and Perry Meridian topped Connersville, 4-1. The Trojans and Falcons are scheduled to play today for the regional championship.
Center Grove lost just five games while sweeping the Tigers, who finished the season at 20-4.
At No. 1 singles, Sophia Heck bested Maryrose Felling, 6-0, 6-0.
Sloane Small produced a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles over Anniston Evans.
Ragan Small completed the singles sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Zhibek Zhumaly at No. 3 singles.
At No. 1 doubles, Kenna Harbin and Tanya Nadimpalli defeated Kate Collier and Neve Kahler, 6-1, 6-0.
Maggie Teed and Maggie Sendelbach topped Estelle Gearlds and Cadence Roberts, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.
