Shelbyville sophomore Haylee Barnes advanced out of the Connersville Sectional.
Barnes’ score of 8.625 on the vault Saturday afternoon secured her a fifth-place finish in the event and a spot in the Franklin Central Regional Friday night.
The top six finishers in each event and the top three scoring teams advanced out of six sectional events held Friday and Saturday around the state.
Barnes was the only Shelby County gymnast to advance to the regional.
Barnes helped the Golden Bears to a fourth-place finish in the team standings. New Palestine (105.4), New Castle (98.65) and Connersville (97.3) advanced to the sectional with Shelbyville fourth at 90.925.
Morristown finished seventh (51.8) in the 13-team field.
Shelbyville sophomore Lilli Conway was the top local finisher in the all-around competition. She finished eighth with 31.9 points from four events.
Conway placed 12th in the vault (8.425), 11th in floor exercise (8.2), 13th on balance beam (7.675) and eighth on uneven bars (7.6).
Barnes finished 13th in the all-around (30.675).
Also competing for Shelbyville were freshmen Piper Brown (18th in all-around, 28.05) and Bryleigh Heller (20th in all-around, 26.7).
Morristown senior Annika Roots placed 21st in all-around (26.1) while sophomore Savannah Theobald was 22nd (25.7).
The Franklin Central Regional Friday includes gymnasts advancing from sectionals at Franklin Central and Connersville.
