Rockies dominate second half to pull away from Twin Lakes in football opener

It's the most points scored by the Rockies since a 54-28 sectional quarterfinal win over Kankakee Valley in 2019.

Plymouth outscored Twin Lakes 27-0 in the second half and rolled to a season opening 53-20 football win at the Rockpile Friday.

Third year starter at quarterback Exzander Ramirez accounted for five touchdowns to go with 142 yards passing and 227 rushing yards

Finn Holm also topped the century rushing mark with 122 yards on 22 carries and a touchdown.

Wide receiver Jose Fernando made five catches for 73 yards and a score.

Andres Medrano contributed a turnover with an interception for the Plymouth (1-0) defense.

"I was pleased with our effort and energy for all four quarters. We have mistakes to clean up for next week but are excited for the opportunity to play again at home," said head coach Adam Handley.

The Rockies will celebrate Blueberry Festival weekend with a 7 p.m. home game against Colombia City on Friday. The Eagles (1-0) won their opener with a 42-0 shutout of Churubusco.

Plymouth lost at Columbus City last season 42-0.
