Shelbyville High School senior Gavin Reed has been named the Beth Prince State Farm Athlete of the Week.
Reed helped the Shelbyville football team earn its first sectional win since 2015 on Friday in a 35-14 home victory over Connersville.
Reed had a solid all-around performance and made an impact on both sides of the ball. He finished with eight tackles and an interception and had three catches for 58 yards -- one being a 31-yard touchdown reception late in the second quarter which put the Golden Bears up 21-0 at halftime.
With the win, Shelbyville (5-5) will travel to Bedford North Lawrence (7-3), a 50-0 winner Friday at Jennings County, for a Halloween Sectional 23 semifinal game.

The Golden Bears' last sectional win came on Oct. 23, 2015, at Jennings County, 49-26. In the semifinal round, East Central ended Shelbyville’s season, 36-25.
The last time Shelbyville won its first two postseason games came in 2013 when it defeated Franklin County (33-7) and East Central (25-22).
