Prep Report: Triton Central softball scores late to defeat Greenwood

Triton Central scored a pair of runs in each of the first two innings and added the game winner in the sixth Thursday to defeat Greenwood, 7-6, in Fairland.

Jalynn Keith had a home run, scored two runs and drove in two for Triton Central (12-7). Gracie Craig and Kimiko Keith also had two RBIs. Ashlyn Hittle had a team-high three hits.

Riley Sheler pitched the first three innings to earn the win. Madi Peterson allowed just one run over the final four innings to collect the save.

Kinsley Clark had a home run and drove in four for Greenwood (15-5).

Baseball

Morristown 13, Waldron 7

At Waldron, a 7-run fourth inning propelled the Yellow Jackets to the Mid-Hoosier Conference win over the Mohawks.

Jake Miesse had three hits, three runs scored and three runs batted in for Morristown. Cole Helton also had three hits and scored two runs. Russ Kleine and Michael Ballinger each had two hits.

Landon Rinzel earned the win, pitching six innings, allowing seven hits and five runs.

Hunter Dodson had three hits for Waldron. Troy Atwood and Caiden Young each drove in two runs.

Indianapolis Scecina 9, Triton Central 5

At Triton Central, the visiting Crusaders used a 7-run fifth inning to break open the game between former Indiana Crossroads Conference foes.

Brady Ray had three RBIs to lead Scecina (8-11). He also was the winning pitcher, allowing four hits and one run over four innings.

Rylan Anderson, Andrew Berry and Kellan Dishman each had two hits. Kellan Dishman had a solo home run.

Brayden Hoover took the loss.

Softball

Morristown 23, Waldron 6

At Waldron, the Yellow Jackets scored 12 runs in the first inning and cruised to a 5-inning MHC victory.

Leigh Ann Arnold had five hits, scored four runs and had five RBIs to lead Morristown. Abby Hawk had three doubles and scored three runs. Mykynzy Smith, Avery Everhart and Ayvah Weir each had three hits

Abby Crouch had a hit and scored two runs for Waldron.

Indian Creek 9, Shelbyville 4

At Shelbyville, a 3-run third inning gave the Braves the lead for good and they added three more insurance runs in the seventh to secure the win.

Ella Schaub had two extra-base hits, scored two runs and drove in two more for Class 3A, No. 10 Indian Creek (19-5). Delaney Jones had two doubles.

Ryah Caul went the distance, allowing 13 hits and three walks but only four runs.

Lexi Rogers had four hits and scored two runs for Shelbyville (10-12). Sydney Brown and Hailey Maulden each had two hits.

June Murdick took the loss, pitching five innings, allowing 10 hits and five runs (four earned).

Girls tennis

Shelby County Tournament

Triton Central 5, Waldron 0

At Triton Central, the Tigers swept all five matches to win the Shelby County Tournament title.

At No. 1 singles, Maryrose Felling defeated Riley Thurston, 6-2, 6-3.

Anniston Evans produced a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles over Ava Leising.

Ellie Gast secured a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles over Leah Kuhn.

At No. 1 doubles, Kate Collier and Neve Kahler pinned the first loss of the season on Emerson Lindsey and Jackie Corlett, 6-0, 6-1.

Estelle Gearlds and Cadence Roberts defeated Malia Murphy and Hannah Rouse, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Boys track and field

Hoosier Heritage Conference Meet

Greenfield-Central 133, Mt. Vernon 122, New Palestine 85, Delta 74.5, Yorktown 72, Pendleton Heights 71, New Castle 37.5, Shelbyville 29

At Mt. Vernon, sophomore Ethan Griffin produced Shelbyville’s only top four finish at the meet. His throw of 43 feet, 3.5 inches earned him fourth in the shot put. He also placed seventh in the discus (132-6).

Joaquin Delgado finished fifth in the 110 hurdles (16.29) and sixth in the 300 hurdles (44.34)

Eli Davis ran to a fifth-place finish in the 400 (52.47) and jumped to a seventh-place result in the high jump (5-8).
