PHS volleyball Coach Derek Eveland resigns PLYMOUTH - After four years of leading the Plymouth Pilgrim volleyball team, head coach Derek Eveland has decided to resign as the PHS volleyball coach. Eveland’s daughter Bailey, a PHS 2018 grad, is now playing collegiately at Hanover College. “I am looking forward to watching and supporting my daughter Bailey over the next three years of competition as a college volleyball player. Although I will miss the teaching, game planning, and the relationships formed, I am very comfortable with my decision to step down at this time. I feel the players are prepared and will continue to play at a high level,” said Eveland. Coach Eveland served as a varsity assistant coach from 2012-14. In Coach Eveland’s first season as head coach in 2015, it was a transition year with a new staff and a fairly young team as the Pilgrims only had two seniors. The Pilgrims finished the season with a 12-22 overall record and 2-5 in the NLC. Over the next three seasons, the Pilgrim varsity volleyball team went 22-13, 22-13, and 22-11. In the Northern Lakes Conference over the last three seasons, the Pilgrims finished 5-2, 5-2, and were conference champions in 2018 going 7-0. This was the programs first NLC championship since 2000. In 2017, the team also won its first ever Powerball Championship. The Plymouth High School Athletic Department would like to thank Coach Eveland for his dedication to the program and our student-athletes over the last seven years.
