Robinson Maroons quarterback Reese Johnson ran for 164 yards and 2 touchdowns and passed for 169 yards and 2 touchdowns Friday night to rally his team to a 39-19 homecoming win over the Lawrenceville Indians at Crosby Field in Robinson.
The hosts trailed at one point in the first quarter 10-0 to the Tribe, but the Indians could not add to their lead and the defense gave up some big pass plays and key runs that enabled Robinson to make their comeback.
For the Indians, who have lost three straight to fall to 1-5 overall and 0-4 in the Little Illini Conference (LIC), they lost despite putting up over 370 yards in total offense. Quarterback Blayton Gossett was 15 of 29 passing for 257 and 2 touchdowns and an interception. Indian wide receiver Zander Cessna caught 6 passes for 137 yards and a touchdown and Jacek Mickiewicz had a 54-yard touchdown reception and the Indians ran for over 100 yards, but it was not enough.
The Indians will hit the road again next Friday as they head to Bush Field in Marshall to face the Lions in LIC play.
