Lady softball Indians advance in regional; Lady Salukis lose

Both Lawrence County softball teams saw first round regional action Monday with different results.

The Lawrenceville Lady Indians won in the Class 2A Flora Regional over Vandalia at Phil Alsman Field in Lawrenceville. They took control early by scoring 4 runs in the first inning enroute to the victory. The squad racked up 9 runs total on 15 hits and made no errors while holding the Lady Vandals to 3 runs on 9 hits with 2 errors. Leading the hitting were Erin Harris with 4 hits and an RBI, Abby Taylor with 3 hits and 2 RBI, Olivia Brush with 2 hits and Makenna Hill with a solo homerun. Allison Evans picked up the pitching win. The Lady Indians are now 11-17 on the year and will advance to meet top seed Newton in the semi-finals at Flora Tuesday at 4 p.m., weather and field conditions permitting.

Meanwhile, the season came to an end for the Red Hill Lady Salukis. They were edged 7-6 by the North Clay Lady Cardinals at Louisville in the opening round of the Class 1A Hutsonville Regional.  They bow out with a record of 5-8. North Clay moves on to meet Farina (South Central) in the semi-finals at Hutsonville Tuesday at 5 p.m., weather and field conditions permitting.
