The quest by the Parkview 8th grade Lady basketball Braves for a state championship came to an end Wednesday evening.
The Lady Braves fell behind early and could never really recover in a 34-24 loss to host Germantown Hills in the first semi-final of the Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA) Class 3A State Tournament.
The squad trailed by 10 after one quarter of play and by 11 at the half. The Lady Braves played even in the third and fourth quarters but could not gain ground and suffered their first loss of the year.
Parkview was led in scoring by Cameron Sanders with 8 points and Taylor Dillon added 7, but it was not enough.
The 24-1 Lady Braves will play for third place Thursday at 6 p.m. against 22-2 Downs Tri-Valley. They were beaten in the second semi-final by 17-0 Springfield Lincoln.
