The #1 ranked Lawrenceville basketball Indians began defense of their Little Illini Conference (LIC) tournament championship Saturday with a 60-44 quarterfinal win over the Paris Tigers at Robinson.
The Indians led 21-11 after one quarter, 34-18 at the half, and 50-31 after three quarters in notching their sixth win in a row to improve to 19-1 on the season.
The Tribe was led in scoring by Noah Wilson with 17 points, Jayden Goff with 13 and Zander Cessna added 12.
The Indians will not see action in the championship semi-finals until Wednesday at 6 p.m. when they face the Marshall Lions. Marshall won in quarterfinal play Saturday 55-49 over Olney (Richland County). In other first day action Saturday, Casey-Westfield beat host Robinson 56-45 and Mt. Carmel upset Newton 61-52.
The tournament has been pushed back one day due to weather. The consolation bracket games scheduled for Monday will now be played on Tuesday with the championship semi-finals Wednesday.
