Joliba Brogan II had a pair of touchdown runs and Rylan Vinard converted a pair of field goals to lead Mt. Vernon to a 34-0 victory Friday over Shelbyville.
The Marauders won their fourth straight after starting the season 0-4 and improved to 4-2 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference.
Brogan scored the game’s first touchdown in the first quarter when he closed out a drive with a 5-yard run to the end zone.
Quarterback Mason Meyer got loose midway through the second quarter and weaved his way through the Shelbyville defense for a 48-yard scoring run that made it 14-0.
Vinard closed out the first-half scoring in the final seconds with a 23-yard field goal. He would add a 34-yarder late in the third quarter.
Damarion Johnson had the other Mount Vernon touchdown on a 7-yard run in the third quarter.
Shelbyville lost its seventh-straight contest and was shut out for the third consecutive game to fall to 1-7 (0-5 HHC).
The Golden Bears close out the regular season at home at McKeand Stadium next Friday against Pendleton Heights. The Arabians improved to 3-5 (2-4 HHC) Friday with a 47-20 win over Yorktown.
