The #1 ranked Lawrenceville Indians will return to defend their Little Illini Conference (LIC) boy's tournament title.
The Tribe used a strong defensive effort in the third quarter to break open a close game and went on to pick up their 20th win of the season, a 65-37 victory over the Marshall Lions Wednesday in semi-final action at Robinson.
They led 11-10 after one quarter and 24-17 at the half before outscoring the Lions 21-7 in the third stanza to take firm control 43-24 heading into the final quarter. Zander Cessna scored 11 of his 16 points during that quarter to spur the offense. Noah Wilson added 16 points, and Jayden Goff had a double-double on the night with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Lawrenceville has now won 7 games in a row and is 20-1 overall. They will face the Casey-Westfield Warriors (15-7) for the championship Friday night at 8 p.m. Casey beat Mt. Carmel 68-53 in the second semi-final Wednesday.
