The Lawrenceville basketball Indians used a strong defensive effort Saturday to finish up play at the Effingham/Teutopolis Christmas Classic Tournament.
They knocked off the Newton Eagles51-31 in consolation bracket play at Effingham.
The Tribe led 14-6 after one quarter and expanded the lead to 27-14 at the half.
The lead widened to 37-22 after three quarters and the Indians went on to the victory over their Little Illini conference rivals.
Noah Wilson led the effort with 18 points and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
The win was the second in a row for 11-6 Lawrenceville, who are idle until Friday, January 10th at home against Fairfield.
