The storybook season for the Lawrenceville basketball season has come to a close.
The Tribe fell to the Warrensburg-Latham Cardinals 47-43 Wednesday night in the Class 2A Tolono Sectional.
They led 11-9 after one quarter, but the Cardinals took a 21-17 lead at the half.
The Cardinals increased their level of play and outscored the Indians 18-8 in the third to take a 39-25 lead heading into the final stanza.
But the locals rallied behind pressure defense in the final quarter and cut the lead down to 3 in the final minute and had possession of the ball, but could not score and suffered the loss.
Zander Cessna led the offense with 18 points and Noah Wilson added 10
The Indians bow out of the Class 2A tournament series with a 24-8 record.
The team won the Little Illini Tournament title and the Paris Regional title and at one point won 12 straight games during an outstanding year under first year head coach Tad Shick.
Warrensburg-Latham has now won 15 straight games and is 30-4.
They will face Teutopolis Friday at 7 p.m. for the sectional championship.
