Shelbyville High School sophomore gymnast Haylee Barnes has been named the Beth Prince State Farm Athlete of the Week.
Barnes (photo, center) advanced out of the Connersville Sectional, which was held Saturday. She was the only Shelby County gymnast to advance to regional competition.
Barnes’ score of 8.625 on the vault secured her a fifth-place finish in the event and a spot in the Franklin Central Regional Friday night.
The top six finishers in each event and the top three scoring teams advanced out of six sectional sites held Friday and Saturday around the state.
Barnes helped the Golden Bears to a fourth-place finish in the team standings. New Palestine (105.4), New Castle (98.65) and Connersville (97.3) advanced to the regional with Shelbyville fourth at 90.925.
